Crock Pot Wars Benefiting Watermark for Kids

This last week, The Fountains at Canterbury held one of their Watermark for Kids fundraisers…The Crock Pot Wars! Ten associates prepared dishes in crock pots to be served from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Town Center. Residents and associates from different buildings came over to test the different recipes. Each person was given a large oval plate with small bowls big enough for a generous ladle full of food. Their cost for the meal also included bottled water and Halloween cookies. Some of the dishes included Chili, Southwest Mexican Chicken, BBQ Chicken Sliders with Hawaiian Rolls, Potato Soup, Pinto Beans  with Mini Cornbread, Bowtie Pasta with Meat Sauce and more!

Everyone was given ballots and asked to vote for their favorite. The winner was Kristy Davis, Director of Nurses in The Springs, who prepared the BBQ Chicken Sliders with the Hawaiian Rolls. It was hard to choose…every dish was different and delicious and all received votes. We raised over $250 at this event, which all goes toward Watermark for Kids. This is a cause we support at The Fountains at Canterbury as part of helping underserved kids thrive. We give to kids who would like to play an instrument, take acting or singing lessons but can’t afford the extra luxury. We currently have a little ballerina, Christina, at Oklahoma Ballet who is able to take ballet lessons, which has always been her dream. She has performed on the stage with Oklahoma Ballet now for the last few years. We are also providing ballet shoes to those in need. We have had students at the Lyric Theatre who were able to have acting lessons, a student who took guitar lessons as well. So far, all of the students have come out to our community to perform for us, which has been a big thrill. We are happy to be able to support these kids in making their hopes and dreams come true.
